Hand-stripping

A dying art,
still practised here.

Hand-stripping preserves the correct colour, texture and hard weatherproof jacket a wire-coated breed should have. Practised at Barkingham Park by our City & Guilds qualified team.

The Craft

What is hand-stripping?

Hand-stripping is the traditional method of removing dead hair from a wire coat by hand — keeping the correct colour, texture and hard weatherproof jacket a wire breed should have. Clipping softens the coat and washes out the colour over time; stripping preserves it.

We offer hand-stripping for wire-coated breeds, gundogs and setters. Many salons no longer offer this service — it takes patience, skill and a properly trained eye, and our team have all three.

Pricing

£45 / hour

Hand-stripping is charged by the hour as the time required depends heavily on breed, coat condition and how often the coat has been maintained. We'll give you a clear estimate at the initial consultation.
